When one can freely make a box, one tries to include so many things at once such as things that could not be tried with product packages with all the conditions imposed on them or thoughts long held about boxes. At times the results may provoke the question, "is this a box?" For about 10 years, I have been making my own boxes with old folk art and provincial toys as motifs. They have occasionally been made public. The materials have been very simple-paper and wood. It was a retrospective kind of "exhibition of boxes for fun."Shigeru Akizuki
