When one is over sixty years old it is customary in Western-Europe that one will slowly retire and not be ‘in competition’ anymore. It was wonderful to show my work in Tokyo. We, the Dutch are known for our strictness. I consider myself a strict ‘grid’ designer, ‘a designer for people’ , and that is the reason that I felt honoured to be a guest in the Kingdom of the Poster namely Japan. I know that many Japanese do not like grids and would rather have a festival of bright beautiful art and use this in a poster. I felt very happy to have an exhibition in Japan, not only to show my strictness, but also since the time has come to slowly withdraw and start the last activities of my live. Pieter Brattinga
