Within a multilayered, complexly interwoven framework of technology, popular culture, industry, media, capital, the field of graphic design has steadily brought forth new and contemporary genres of expression. While inextricably linked to "visual information," graphic design is verbal activity which, like poetry, goes undeniably beyond the realm of mere information. And, like 20th century artistic expression, it has given birth to a succession of new and unique modes of expression by strategically pursuing subtle divergences from the conventional social system. Joy of seeing graphic design therefore lies in the degree to which the graphic artist can truly depict fresh visual dreams while maintaining an involvement with the age and society. Through its concise treatment of individual artists, "ggg Books" brings us the joy of graphic design from around the world. Hiroshi Kashiwagi
