As a developing nation which has only recently shed the shackles of colonialism, Zimbabwe was behind as all the great art movements plunged into the heyday of the industrial revolution and its art markets. Our situation was exploited and was plundered our artefacts. But as an African designer I have to shed this bitterness and start a new with a new enriched philosophy. This exhibition let me share with fellow Japanese designers and the public, my challenges, experiences and a real world situation completely different from theirs. Developing country lack technical resources. Transforming constraint into opportunity means being able to use our images, resources and materials to their fullest potential, though they may seem inferior. These aspects of our daily life can creatively and effectively thus form a new contemporary visual language to redeem some of our heritage, identity and individual spirit while offering a new vitality to the world.
