How to put a show together with a selection of work which we did over the last 15 or more years, felt as a compete self investigation and confronted us with our past, our failures and successes. What do you show, why this and not that, how will a Japanese audience read into this work, without knowing anything from its background. All those questions immediately came to mind once we got the invitation to exhibit our work at ddd gallery. Not knowing the space and not liking to display the work in a regular way we also thought for a solution which was close to the way we work. To find a solution which seem to fit with the content and will be an original solution as well in the gallery space. By displaying all the work in a non-chronological order on one big platform-like table we think we managed to bring across something of the dynamic and spirit in our work. We express ourselves through a visual language which is restricted by given text and image. It is the way we deal with these restrictions, a specific handwriting, that characterizes our work, and specifically this, was what we intended to express in our show at ddd. Mevis & Van Deursen
