Exhibition information
kyoto ddd gallery the 249th Exhibition C-GRAPHIC/TAIPEI: Taipei’s Graphic Design Scene in the 2020s
November 06, 2025 - January 12, 2026
In recent years, many graphic designers from the Chinese-speaking world have gained recognition in international design competitions, and their visuals have increasingly become part of our everyday view through social media. However, a full understanding of the cultural and social backgrounds behind these works is still lacking. 'C-GRAPHIC INDEX' attempts to draw auxiliary lines on the vast map of graphic design in the Chinese-character cultural sphere and make its current state visible.
The "C" in 'C-GRAPHIC' refers to Chinese as a language, specifically the characters themselves. This exhibition focuses on Taipei, where Traditional Chinese characters are used, and introduces graphic design by designers born in the 1980s and 1990s, especially those working in the fields of culture and art.
Where and what did these designers study, and what influences shape their design? How do they live, and with what mindset do they approach their creations? Through the physical display of their works, which cannot be fully conveyed in print, visitors can experience the layered creative backgrounds behind them. Through these works, we hope visitors can experience, both visually and verbally, how Taipei's designers interact with the city and shape the culture of the 2020s.

Yang Qiao Ran
Graphic designer and artist. After gaining experiences at the Aaron Nieh Workshop and elsewhere, she has been active as a freelancer since 2018. At the moment, she is focused on her personal 100 Shapes Project. In this project, Yang uses shapes and tones for abstract blocks of color that create unexpected images through the ratios of spaces and borders, expressing the interrelationship with inner and outer selves. Figures and concrete shapes do not make an appearance, instead her various works have a chaotic aspect—part vague poetry and part gentle melody that can be glimpsed like an incomplete dream.
