Ginza Graphic Gallery Special Exhibition Olympic Language: Exploring the Look of the Games
July 20, 2021 - August 28, 2021
In cooperation with the Olympic Foundation for Culture and Heritage, ginza graphic gallery will stage an exhibition entitled “Olympic Language: Exploring the Look of the Games.”
Olympic posters, emblems, pictograms, torches, and medals are part of a visual identity or “Look of the Games,” developed for each edition of the Olympic Games. The Look of the Games is often inspired by the culture, character, and history of the city and country.
Originally held at the Olympic Museum in Lausanne, Switzerland, from May 10, 2018 to March 17, 2019, this exhibition has travelled to Japan. The exhibition focuses on five editions of the Games that are noteworthy for design: Tokyo 1964, Mexico 1968, Munich 1972, Lillehammer 1994, and Athens 2004. It explores how the Look provides a sense of coherence and an overall common identity for each Games through official Olympic properties such as the emblems, the posters, the pictograms, the torches, and much more.
