The 399th ginza graphic gallery Exhibition Daijiro Ohara HAND BOOK
December 11, 2023 - January 31, 2024
What comes to mind when you see or hear the name Daijiro Ohara? If you were to sum up Ohara's profession, he is a graphic designer. However, he has an elusive presence that is not captured by the concepts and images that graphic design contains or evokes.
Daijiro Ohara works with lettering and typography for book and video productions with the focus on an impressive volume of music-related work. His entire practice is built on the use of the HAND to create unique hand-lettering and illustrations that make a strong impression. The things he has created by playing and feeling his way forward with his hands do not only express the voices of his clients, but they also seem to convey Ohara's own emotions and moods.
The title for Daijiro Ohara's first solo exhibition at ggg is HAND BOOK, which is the perfect representation of his work. HAND BOOK is also the title of the collection of works that will be published by Graphic-sha to coincide with the exhibition. The exhibition will, of course, feature Ohara's music-related work, but it will also focus on lettering and design to introduce the whole creative process behind the work he has produced since he started to work independently. The landscapes that emerge as Ohara moves his hand are certain to come to light at this exhibition.
