The212th Kazumasa Nagai Poster Exhibition

Over 120 of my posters from the 1957 "olivetti" to the five new ones made for this exhibition were exhibited. Having all these posters in one place makes one realize again the characteristics and changes of the various times. There was the transition from the abstracts of my early period to places like space. After the turtle and frog of the 1988 "JAPAN," when hand-drawn animals appeared, people were surprised. I had tried to reform drastically with the thought that one can not create without destroying but I was surprised to see that my roots had not changed. Whether I tried to enlarge what was in me in bringing it out or tried to dig deeply within myself as in digging a well, two opposite methods, I aimed for the general from the individual with my designs. This may be why I also heard the like at the exhibition. That made me very happy. Kazumasa Nagai
