■Exhibition Concept
"When faced with a totally new situation, we tend always to attach ourselves to the objects, to the flavor of the most recent past. We look at the present through a rear-view mirror. We march backwards into the future."
— Marshall McLuhan

In 2016, Kyoto University of Art & Design, in cooperation with the DNP Foundation for Cultural Promotion, carried out a joint project for creative endeavors seeking new discoveries that diverge from existing printing techniques and modes of expression.
The students who participated in this project explored the present and past of printed and carved lettering with a view toward the future of graphic design to inspire new discoveries. In thinking about the future, they found greater stimulation by looking into the past than to an undetermined forefront outpost of the future (post ). That is the challenge of creativity, taking the baton and handing it forward. This exhibition will show the fresh perspective of these students, who have examined the past while keeping an eye on the future.
