This November, ginza graphic gallery (ggg) will feature works of the 2011 Thesis students from SCHOOL OF VISUAL ARTS MASTERS OF FINE ARTS DESIGN PROGRAM.
IDEOPOLIS is the city of ideas; it is the culmination of two years of research, conception, development, fabrication and marketing unique and distinct original products and campaigns designed to add value to everyday life. IDEOPOLIS is the creative environment in which they individually and collaboratively invented and experimented with intellectual properties that have either commercial or social implications – or in the best cases, both. The products must be viable in the real world of commerce and ideas. They must have a quantifiable audience. They must fill a void. They must be original. They include campaigns, objects, videos, performances, digital experiences and apps.
This exhibit at the famed ginza graphic gallery is the first time IDEOPOLIS has left New York City. We hope that you will find the work as inspiring as we do. We believe that the entrepreneurial spirit and skill is in all designers.

Ms. Lita Talarico, co-founder and co-chair of the School of Visual Arts MFA Design Program, is scheduled to give a talk about the Designer as Author + Entrepreneur MFA SVA design program.

About the Co-chairs of SVA MFA Design Program
Lita Talarico is co-founder and co-chair of the School of Visual Arts MFA Design Program (Designer as Author + Entrepreneur) in New York City, that has consistently been ranked as one of the “Top Ten Graduate Design Programs” in US News & World Report and listed in Business Week’s “World’s Leading Design Schools. She also co-founded the SVA Masters Workshop in Italy, an ongoing summer program. She also teaches and lectures on design entrepreneurism around the world.
A founding associate of Bill Lacy Design, she coordinated architect selection competitions and conferences for the Cleveland Museum of Art; National World War II Memorial Design Competition; International Design Conference in Aspen Italian Manifesto Conference; and the Pritzker Architecture Prize annual jury meeting. She was a Professional Advisor for the GSA’s U.S. Port of Entry at Massena, NY Design Charrette.
Talarico, formerly is founding managing editor of American Illustration & Photography, is the co-author of Typography Sketchbook; The Design Entrepreneur:Turning Graphic Design into Goods that Sell; Graphic: Inside the Sketchbooks of the World’s Great Graphic Designers; Design School Confidential; and Design Career: A Practical Guide for Beginning Illustrators and Graphic Designers.
A board-member emeritus of Adobe Education Partners by Design, and member of the AIGA Visionary Design Council, she holds a Masters in Art Criticism and Writing. Talarico was a visiting scholar at the American Academy in Rome in 2008 and 2010 where she conducted extensive research on the Roman letter.
Steven Heller is co-chair School of Visual Arts, New York, MFA/Design “The Designer as Author + Entrepreneur.” He is co-founder MFA Products of Design, MFA in Design Criticism (D-Crit), MFA in Interaction Design and MPS in Branding. He is a columnist for The New York Times Book Review, New York Times T-Style, The Atlantic “Life,” and writes regularly for PRINT, EYE, Baseline and other magazines. He is the author and/or editor of over 135 books, including Graphic: Sketchbooks of Designers and Illustrators (co-author Lita Talarico), I Heart Design, Scripts: Elegant Lettering From Design’s Golden Age (co-author Louise Fili) and Iron Fists: Branding the Twentieth Century Totalitarian State. A new book, 100 Ideas the Changed Graphic Design (co-author Veronique Vienne), will be published in Spring 2012.
Heller is the recipient of the 1996 Special Educators Award -- The New York Art Director's Club Hall of Fame; 1999 AIGA Medal for Lifetime Achievement; 2000 Pratt Institute Hershel Levit Award; 2000 Walter Hortens Award/Graphic Artists Guild; 2006 Gangel Award – Society of Illustrators; 2008 School of Visual Arts Masters Series Award and he was recently awarded the 2011 Smithsonian National Design “Design Mind” Award.
