As the summer heat peaks in August, costume artist Kodue Hibino's "Binokodu Cells" (with "Bino" coming from the end of her last name and "kodu" from the beginning of her first name) will fill the ginza graphic gallery (ggg) with wonder.
　　With a creative perspective that separates her from both fashion designers and graphic designers, Hibino continues to give life to a dazzling array of designs. "When individual cells come together one by one, they create something new," she says. "I try to do the same thing―piece together smaller parts to make an interesting whole." Focusing on the "cells" at the heart of Hibino's creative activities, the exhibition will introduce numerous elements of the artist's captivating body of work.
　　The main channel for Hibino's artistic output is "Nihongo de Asobo", a program on NHK Educational TV (E-Tele) that features her costumes and set designs. Since beginning work on the show in 2003, Hibino has created unique costumes for performers, captured the power of Japanese expression in a variety of sets, and designed miniature sets for nursery rhyme segments―wherever you look, "Binokodu Cells" are alive in the everyday objects that give shape to the artist's designs. In addition to highlighting pieces from Nihongo de Asobo, the exhibition will breathe "new life" into ggg with a collection of costumes, images, and videos that showcase Hibino's advertisements, costume designs, evolving "LIVE BONE" performances, and upcoming theatrical collaborations with Hideki Noda.
